There are two pleasant and easy walking tours on the central part of the Switchback known as the Home Stretch. Both begin at the access point marked by the Mauch Chunk Lake Park Office and the Switchback Replica Car 14. The replica car sits on the bed of the original Down Track.

The The Five Mile Tree Walk begins at the road bed access point across the road from the park entrance 14 and proceeds to the west to the ruins of the crossover at Five Mile Tree 8. The normal return route is to retrace the path to the highway. Walkers with more endurance may wish to explore farther any of the other three branches of the Switchback route that converge at Five Mile Tree.

The The Home Stretch Walk begins at the site of the Switchback Replica Car 14 and proceeds eastward along the roadbed on the Home Stretch. It ends at the highway crossing near the site of the Trolley Transfer and the Swimming Pool and Picnic Park 15.
